If Memory Serves is a collection of bedtime stories. When I was a young child, my parents, especially my dad, used to pull over a chair to mybedside and tell me stories of their past adventures allowing me glimpses into their respective lives prior to becoming parents. As they grow older, these memories have been muddled, distorted or forgotten completely while some have been found again through me retelling their stories to them or looking through old photogrpahs. This project serves as an archive of sorts exploring their personal histories and the human desire to remember and be remembered.
The book contains photos from my parents’ archives along with written stories from their past. Exerpts of these stories and conversations with my parents about this project are engraved onto the surface of the chair and used as a block print to digitally overlay into the book.
